The Glacier View Car Launch is an extremely unique way to celebrate an Alaskan 4th of July. Located about an hour north of the Matanuska Valley in the Glacier View region, you will astonished by cars flying off the cliffs and the crowds in a festive spirit.

As always, we would love for you to subscribe to the channel so you will be kept up to date fo’ free on all of the new goodness that we release!
A Family Friendly Event
This is a very family friendly event. While it is crowded, there are plenty of children and families all over the place. There is food and water provided by vendors, but if there was one thing that we would want to change…it’s being more prepared. Especially this summer when we had so much intense heat and sun. We brought some snacks and water, but not nearly enough. We prepared for walking, but not as much as we did.
So when you come – be sure to bring LOTS of water and food. If you arrive early enough, you can also park your own vehicle right where you watch the car launch versus having to hike in. This is definitely something we intend to do next time! Many folks also bring tents and umbrellas to hide from the sun (or rain if it is a rainy season).
There are porta-potties scattered about the area for use, as well. This was especially convenient with young children! They were clean and easily accessible.
Other Activities at the Glacier View Car Launch
The Glacier View Car Launch has a few other fun activities as well. They have a small flyover made up of local bush planes. Our kids always enjoy this, especially since the planes dip low for optimal viewing. They also have a parade of the cars that are about to meet their doom by diving off a cliff. From this parade, candy is thrown out the windows for the kids who are lining the parade route. This is obviously a great hit amongst the kids.
An Alaskan 4th of July
In the land of the midnight sun, fireworks just don’t have the same intrigue. So Alaskans have to get a little creative on how to celebrate an Alaskan 4th of July. The Glacier View Car Launch is an excellent substitute and one that is fun for the whole family. So if you are in Alaska for Independence Day – be sure to check this out. And save the fireworks for New Years when it’s nice and dark. 🙂 Happy adventuring, we will be back with more soon!
