I’ve been interested in health and wellness for as long as I can remember. I started out as a nursing student in college, but things changed and I didn’t complete the program. As I grew into my role as a wife and mother, and as many family members dealt with health issues, my interest grew. Specifically in natural remedies. (Please note, I am NOT against doctors and I believe it is important to be under trained specialists. You can read more about my view on this here.) I never thought I’d be talking about why it is important to choose your company well, but here I am. So how did I (eventually) become involved with the Young Living Business?
Introduction to Young Living
In 2012, I began to enter the world of oils. I was amazed at how they could be used to boost the immune system, assist me with emotional balance, and be used on a daily basis for cleaning, air freshening, and more. I cannot remember a day in the last 6 years when I did not use at least one oil for something. From day 1, my favorite company was Young Living – even though I didn’t use their oils exclusively. Many of the oils from other companies gave me headaches or seemed to be ineffective.
In 2017, I joined another health and wellness company (for clarification, it was not an oil company). It is a popular company among many of my friends in Alaska, and some people I truly respect are heavily involved. The products are said to be beneficial for some of the things I was dealing with, so I tried them. And shortly thereafter, I became involved in the business.
It went well for a time. I got several friends and family members to take the products, and there were some health breakthroughs. I was energized and excited. But as time went on, I was encouraged to contact people in order to build relationships so that I might one day make a sale. Compliance was an issue, but it was confusing, ill-taught, and not enforced at all by this company. There were continuous posts from the company’s top sellers that went strictly against policy – but those were the people making the sales. I became disillusioned and found myself becoming less enthused about the company and subsequently the products.
I desperately desired training, but the training we received was more on personal development. Personal development is ABSOLUTELY vital to growing a business, but I was still lost with how to even promote products. I began to lose interest.
As I lost my enthusiasm, it became apparent to those in my team. And as that happened, most of the relationships which I thought we had built changed. Many (thought definitely not all) of the relationships faded, and I was saddened that it felt like people who I had hoped were good friends were more interested in if I could make their business stronger than in a true relationship.
Realizing I Needed to Switch
As time went on I also realized I needed beauty. The company I had been working with did not have a creative air. And while I never thought I would say this – I need beauty and creativity. Based on the products from the other company, it seemed impossible for me to create beauty out of them. There were some good products, but they did not really lend themselves to creative photoshoots, gifts, and recipes.
So I contacted the lady who is now my sponsor at Young Living and talked with her. I explained my desires and goals for a business, and she got it. She was successfully creating beauty, while building her business simultaneously. So I switched. And I haven’t gone a day where I’ve regretted that decision.
As I’ve become involved with the Young Living business, I love the desire to truly help, not sell, and build true relationships. To never make a relationship unless you truly want the relationship, regardless if they will help you build your Young Living business or not. I love using Young Living products to create beauty, inspiration, and a healthier way of living. What’s more amazing is that I’ve found the most supportive team of women who are there for me every step of the way – not only for my business but to build a true relationship with me as a person.
Choose Your Company Well
I wish I had chosen the Young Living business in the first place. To an extent, I wonder why I did not. On the other side, I appreciate the first company I chose to begin searching business options with. I would have never considered direct sales of multi level marketing if it had not been for the person who introduced me to that company. Because of her and that first business, I opened a whole new door of possibilities and potentials for myself and my family.
But here’s the thing. If you start with a company and decide it isn’t for you – do not be afraid to change. You can change and be successful and find a better fit for you. It is absolutely awesome if your first choice of a company is the best choice. But it might not be. And that’s okay. You do you. Pick what is best for you. And chase your dreams. Only you can decide which company is a good fit for you. Choose your company well, and don’t be afraid to switch. For me, it’s Young Living.
