In this age where people have everything, holidays can be a stressful time. We need to buy so many different items for each kid, and then fill the stockings. And on top of that then we need to figure out how to keep a budget and hope and pray that our kids actually like the stuff we give them and don’t become entitled. Sounds stressful, right? There’s a better way. Keep it simple. Now don’t get me wrong – I love giving gifts. Giving gifts actually ranks pretty high as one of my love languages. But keeping it simple provides less stress on the budget and parents, as well as makes Christmas morning less overwhelming. Since moving to Alaska, we’ve also been moving closer to a minimalist lifestyle. So keeping gifts thoughtful is key! So here are some quick little ideas for the best stocking stuffers for kids.
Best Stocking Stuffers For Kids
In our family, we keep stocking stuffers very practical – see the above statements about our lifestyle! Don’t worry – we add in a little fun. We always open our stockings before breakfast on Christmas morning, so we like to include a small gift to keep the children entertained while we make and eat breakfast. And then we slowly open the gifts. But all that to say – here is my list of best stocking stuffers for kids!
You might laugh, but our kids usually get socks for Christmas. Yes, we put stockings in the stockings. Kid feet are always growing, so it’s fun to put a couple of FUN socks in their stockings. Maybe it’s their favorite Paw Patrol or Minecraft character on the socks, or maybe it’s just their favorite color. Whatever it is, it’s one of the things we like to do. (We also have a tendency to get new underwear for Christmas…just being honest!)
Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
Since we’ve had kids, we’ve always put toothbrushes in the stockings. This year we switched things up and purchased bamboo toothbrushes in our effort to go more towards zero waste. I’ve been slowly switching as many plastic items as I can to other alternatives. I found these really cute Bamdable toothbrushes with little animals on their handles for each of the kids. And since it comes in a pack of 8, it also means we have backup toothbrushes for later in the year. Score.
We also always stuff their stockings with Young Living KidScents Slique Toothpaste. It’s made with all natural ingredients and doesn’t have any flouride. Perfect for what we want in our home. Flouride can be toxic if too much is ingested, the question really is “how much is too much.” For us, we’ve decide that flouride in toothpaste is too much and we’ve moved away from all toothpastes with flouride.
Kids love all things sweet, right? When we first had kids, we always thought that the best stocking stuffers for kids required a lot of candy. But since we’ve made an effort to make healthier choices, we will be putting Young Living KidScents Mighty Pro in their stockings this year. Our kids call this amazing prebiotic and probiotic combo “candy” and love how it tastes! It’s a perfect healthy alternative to candy. Then they’ll be able to have one packet a day (just like we used to limit candy to one piece per day)! A perfect way for them to enjoy something sweet while gaining amazing holistic wellness benefits!
While this is not happening this year due to the fact that I haven’t had a chance to get them done…. As per tradition, I’ve always handmade a small ornament for each child. I personally like to cross stitch the ornaments, but it could really be whatever you enjoy! And if you aren’t crafty, run to the store and get a small $5 ornament. I love the small ornament collection I have from when I was growing up…and I want to provide the same for my kids.
One Small Toy
Like I mentioned above, we do enjoy giving our kids fun things that they can play with. Usually we observe what they love most during each Christmas season, and try to get them something that matches that. I think they would say that these toys truly are the best stocking stuffers for kids! 😉 This year our kids all love to play the computer game Minecraft with their Dad. So the kids will be getting little Lego Minecraft minifigures in their stocking stuffers. I have no doubt at all that these minifigures alone could keep them entertained for hours!
